Higher Education & Admission

Central Government is responsible for major policy relating to higher education in the country. It provides grants to UGC and establishes central universities in the country. The Central Government is also responsible for declaration of Education Institutions as ‘Deemed to be University’ on the recommendation of the UGC.

State Governments are responsible for establishment of State Universities and colleges, and provide plan grants for their development and non-plan grants for their maintenance.

The admission to the most prestigious colleges & universities is very competitive. Additionally to the Higher Secondary Certificate students need to prepare for one or several entrance exams by the govt and 85% of the seats are offered to students by these entrance exams based on merit

Academic session in India is normally from July to June.  It is suggested that students desirous of pursuing their higher study in India should start making enquiries and research latest b November/December preceding the related academic year. This would help them in identifying appropriate courses and University/Institution by January and facilitate their submission of admission application for direct admission

In some of the universities institutions admission closes earlier by April.
